Antony GormleyHuman Beans
The idea for this piece came to me as I was working on my Man on the Wall, a lifesize sculpture of a man stuck to a wall (Are we the man? Are we the wall? Hmmm…) I was interested in the way the light coming through my studio window struck my lunch, which was beans on toast. If only there were a way of discarding the toast, which actually said very little, and enhancing the beans with facial characteristics, perhaps there might be something interesting to say about the human condition…How right I was.
