Rockin' The Joint were formed in 1982 when trainee Greek lawyers Philip Pedopopulous, Stavvi Armani and Don Feta got together, had a few beers - and rocked. "Our musical style has evolved from rocking blues"' says Pedopopulous. "We replaced g with ', switched to Marlboro Lights and came up with what we call rockin' blues".

Acoustic Belgian balladeers Quivering Aspens came together at a high-fibre picnic for English students organised by a Christian education charity. Singer Seb Poirot remembers "A lovely summer's day. We talked for hours about love, life, the heartbreaks and the yearnings".

Cookie Bongo Breakers have been producing rural hip-hop for the last three years. Frontman MC Tweaks says: "It's terribly important to honour the traditions of hip-hop, notwithstanding the fact that we live in a rather sleepy part of Gloucestershire. Our latest demo - Bitch Chicken Motherfucker - is essentially an hommage to the genre. We slowed my voice down to make it sound blacker, and put in some swearing".

Essential Rib are a Swedish four-piece who describe themselves as a "post-feminist punk band with all the time in the world". Their perfect British accents and a 'punk sensibility' has already won them plaudits from some Swedish post-feminist punks. Underlining the political message is shouting.

Finnish band Atrium's music is self-explanatory in Finnish, but here's what frontwoman Diva Panadol says via an electronic translator: 'What it is Atrium? Our visit to the space of the public thing is an approach search with certain lights. It is oneself body dislocated kindly in four subbodys that speak languages dissimilar but that they arise of oneself. Queerly it is a warm and intense quadrilateral. In certain corner the phase mother in which is new sounds that mix melodic, pianos, guitars, drummers and cybernetic systems. In another corner an acoustic way, argued by the one it unplugs of so much tecnics that a little bit, its OK, but it is better to maintain it to line. In the third corner the return to the science of the chips tinged with southern artisan's head and northern yunky fingers. In the fourth corner the one that listens to their amniotic walk, immobile from secret armchairs'.

Patatas Locos are a 'free jazz' band from northern Spain. This is their latest demo, Tunisian Fantasy in Mauve. Guitarist and combo leader El Bingo: "'Many of our pieces end on the second to last measure, or on the first beat of the eleventh measure. Often, the drummer will take four measures, even on a night when he's not drinking. The secret is not to panic. If you have become lost, you must stop playing for a little while to see if you can hear where everyone else is".
